Ikal y Sanse, which serves Mexican cuisine in Campton Hills, is celebrating its first anniversary starting this month with a 13-course tasting menu.

Ikal Y Sanse, an elevated Mexican restaurant located in Campton Hills, is marking its first anniversary this month with a special 13-course tasting menu [1.1]. Located at 40W222 LaFox Road, the establishment has spent its inaugural year establishing a unique culinary identity in the Chicago suburbs.
Co-owner and chef Christopher Gonzalez has curated the multi-course anniversary menu, which draws inspiration from diverse flavor profiles across Mexico. The special menu will be available from August 25 through September 13, blending traditional tributes with modern techniques to showcase the depth of Mexican gastronomy.
Additionally, the restaurant hosted a dedicated anniversary dinner by reservation only on August 26, featuring the tasting menu alongside an optional wine pairing. The kitchen team, which also includes Victor Serano and Darwin Cruz, has focused on delivering high-end culinary standards since taking over the former site of Lupita's Cucina.
The restaurant's distinctive name translates to "Unique Spirit" and is derived from three historical Hispanic empires, combining Mayan, Spanish, and Aztec linguistic elements. Co-owners Gonzalez and Luis Maldonado sought to reshape local perceptions of Mexican dining by introducing a technique-heavy, ingredient-driven approach utilizing prime beef and halal-quality proteins.
While traditional favorites like tacos, fajitas, and tortas remain part of the broader culinary picture, management emphasizes that the preparation and execution are designed to elevate the cuisine. Maldonado noted that Mexican cuisine is deeply rooted in tradition and deserves to be presented at a high tier of dining.
Reflecting on their first year in business, ownership acknowledged that broader economic headwinds have presented challenges for small independent restaurants. Despite these hurdles, the team expressed profound gratitude to the local community for supporting the venture throughout its first year.
